Global Bloomsday 2020.
Dear
Friends,
We have been requested to collaborate in a global virtual
initiative to mark Bloomsday 2020.
The
department are developing a collaborative project to create a Global Bloomsday short film, using
brief video clips from different parts of the world to create a dynamic
diverse collection of locations and languages to convey a sense of global
connectedness at this time, and also a flavour of the universal playful energy
of Ulysses.
As a script, a selection
of short quotations from the book has been chosen (see previous post), which are universal rather than referring to the specific
characters, locations or plot, and which evoke these extraordinary times:
silence, isolation, the desire for human touch, the quest for a cure, then
turning towards love, hope for the future and affirmation. As you will
see, each quotation is connected to a corresponding type of location and time
of day. The idea would be to choose a performer and a location, and record. The
guidelines on how to do so with an iPhone or other device you might have at
hand are also attached.
The relevant line (or lines for
the scenes which have two quotations attached) should be spoken to camera
rather than read, and can be delivered in English or Spanish. To guide
the performers, voice directions are included for each quotation.
Then you would need to record three
short film clips for the chosen scene: (i) the performer speaking the relevant
line to camera, (ii) the performer, silent, looking to camera, c 10 secs, (iii)
a shot of the location without performer, 5-10 secs.
We would need to
receive the videos before May 28, with time to resolve technical problems,
if any.
Forward them to
me at this email: bloomsdaysociety@gmail.com
Do not hesitate
to contact me if you have any queries.
I want to
encourage you to participate as it will be primary and unique event among
joyceans .
Thank
you.
